KSBW spoke with multiple people who said they were shopping at stores in the Scotts Valley area on Saturday afternoon when they went outside and saw a tornado.
KSBW spoke with multiple people who said they were shopping at stores in the Scotts Valley area on Saturday afternoon when they came outside and saw a tornado.”To be honest with you, I thought this could be the end of my life. It was that strong,” said Bob Wolfe. “This was the strongest wind that I have ever seen, witnessed in my life, and I thought the car was going to completely flip over.””I heard someone scream, ‘There’s a tornado,’ so I ran out to the window to see, and there were things flying around, people screaming, cars making a bunch of noises,” said Chloe Kent. Witnesses immediately focused on making sure everyone was safe.”I’m like, ‘Dad, we need to go help people,'” Kent said. “So me and my dad sprinted out of Target, and we helped this lady out of her car, and we made sure we put pressure on her head because she was bleeding, and then I went and found her dogs after the EMT came and helped her.””We wanted to make sure people were OK. We saw the poles across the street that were down, and then there’s trees that are snapped off, so we definitely were like, is everybody all right?” Amber Merriman said. The Scotts Valley Police Department says five people were injured. Four of those people have been released from the hospital. Thankfully, nobody was killed.”We had several back injuries, lots of cuts, abrasions, contusions because the vehicles had flipped over,” said Capt. Jason Rutherford. “Some of them had the roofs were crushed in, and they were trapped inside.”Pacific Gas and Electric Company polls, trees, businesses and several cars were damaged by flying debris.Six cars were flipped, and the Target and McDonald’s signs were destroyed.
